About Us:

 

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) located in Seattle, Washington is a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC), University of Washington (UW) and Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center (CHRMC).

The Seattle hematopoietic stem cell transplant program began with the pioneering work of Nobel Laureate Dr. E. D. Thomas.  This program today continues to provide high quality patient care with superior medical outcomes through dedicated multi-specialty clinical care and cutting edge clinical research collaborations among the physicians and medical scientists of the SCCA, FHCRC, UWMC and CHRMC.  The mission of the Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory (CIL) is to provide world-class clinical immunogenetics testing using state of the art technology to assure the highest quality services.

 

Responsibilities:

 

The CIL Manager is responsible for the overall management of the SCCA Clinical Immunogenetics Laboratory, with focus on personnel leadership, budget and revenue cycle planning and management, and collaboration between all sections of the laboratory.  This position works under the direction of the CIL Director and Associate Director of Clinical Laboratories.  The CIL Manager provides leadership to the CIL Operations Supervisor and Quality and Technical Specialists, and is part of the SCCA Clinical Laboratory Management team.

 

Major Duties:

 

The manager’s duties include, but are not limited to:

• Administrative leadership of laboratory operations
• Responsibility for billing and charge capture
• Development and monitoring of operating and capital budgets
• Coordination of the leadership, activities and interactions of individual department units, including coordinator office, cell processing and DNA isolation, HLA intermediate and high resolution typing, serological typing/antigen expression, antibody screening, crossmatching and engraftment monitoring
• Responsibility for laboratory personnel issues, including hiring, training and development, continuing education and disciplinary actions
• Establishing and enforcing departmental and SCCA policies and procedures
• Providing operational planning and support for projects within CIL and across SCCA departments for continuous process improvement
• Maintain thorough understanding of CIL testing services and technology; interpret and review test results, oversee preparation of reports and report results to clinicians as appropriate
• Collaboration with CIL Director, CIL leadership staff and SCCA Administration to develop long range plans for improving clinical services provided by CIL

 

Qualifications:

 

• Baccalaureate degree in biological science or medical technology, and five years experience in a biological science laboratory.
• Experience in an HLA required.
• At least two years experience at the supervisory level, with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements is preferred.
• Budget and revenue cycle experience is preferred.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, communication and personnel management skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor staff.  This position requires the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with laboratory staff, health care professionals, researchers and across departments in a clinical research setting.
