Description:

 

The Toronto General Research Institute (TGRI), the research arm of the Toronto General Hospital, a leading research hospital at the University of Toronto, is searching for a Director.

 

The position will be filled by an accomplished medical researcher with an established record of scientific achievement in areas of clinical interest to TGH which include cardiovascular disease, transplantation, diabetes, regenerative medicine, infectious diseases, health services research, amongst others.

 

Evidence of scientific and administrative leadership will be a significant advantage.

 

The successful candidate will hold the MD and/or PhD degree, and be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the Associate or Full Professor level. Qualified candidates holding an MD degree will be eligible for a clinical appointment in a relevant department of the Toronto General Hospital.

 

Interest and experience in translational research will be considered a positive attribute by the Search Committee.

 

The TGRI is home to more than 150 principal investigators who span the spectrum of research from basic discovery to applied clinical studies. In addition, there are over 300 trainees (students and postdoctoral fellows) working in TGRI research labs. Total research spending exceeds $90M per annum.

 

The Director, working with Research Division Heads and other members of the Research Council, will be responsible for setting the goals and objectives of the Research Institute and providing strong scientific leadership that results in research programs of significant and sustained global impact.

 

The Director will report to the Vice President, Research, of the University Health Network, which also includes two additional Research Institutes: The Ontario Cancer Institute at Princess Margaret Hospital and the Toronto Western Research Institute at Toronto Western Hospital.

 

The University Health Network has a research budget of approximately $250M dollars, is supported by three dedicated charitable foundations, and is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto.
