Purpose:
Responsible for the coordination of the organ donation process from referral to recovery of organs for transplantation and research. Implements and coordinates hospital development and professional/public education programs using a team approach. Develops and maintains a positive professional liaison between LOPA and the medical/civic community.
Key Result Areas
· Upholds LOPA core values.

· Maintains BLS and ACLS certifications.
· Regularly attends Clinical meetings and other relevant meetings (i.e. approach meetings, referral meetings, etc.)
· Coordinates the organ referral process: able to receive referrals, process and implement plan of action.
· Evaluates potential DCD donors with the assistance of APC, AOC, or the Medical Director.
· Evaluates patients meeting clinical criteria for brain death.
· Effectively requests consent for donation.
· Demonstrates proficiency in obtaining a Medical Social History and documentation of history in R3.
· Onsite management of the brain dead donor.
· Onsite management of the DCD donor.
· Communicates effectively with recovery surgeon, APC and consulting MDs to achieve donor stability and optimize end-organ function.
· Communicates Donor Process plan with hospital and LOPA staff.
· Effectively communicates pertinent data to the placement coordinator.
· Coordinates the brain dead and DCD donor in the operating room.
· Participates in reporting of pertinent donor and family information to appropriate staff (i.e. APC, AOC)
· Maintains an organs transplanted per donor rate at or above the organization average.
· Enters referral and donor information into the LOPA database (R3) within a time frame set by LOPA policy.
· Completes final QA of donor chart within time frame set per LOPA policy.
· Consults with manager and utilizes colleagues for debriefing in difficult cases.
· Participates in Hospital Development Activities such as: DCD Workshops, Care of the Organ Donor Workshops, New Nurse Orientation, Medical Records Review, etc.
· Assist manager in managing data and generating reports.
· On-site management of DCD donor.
· Adheres to all current organ LOPA and UNOS policies relevant to recovery processes.
· Participates in at least one community service event per year.
· Call Requirements: 288 Hours per month (12 days)

Job Specifications:
Education and Experience:
Must be a Registered Nurse with two years working experience in ICU, OR, or ER; or a PA with one-year experience in same; or two years experience with an active organ procurement agency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of structures, systems, and services of LOPA
· Knowledge of medical terminology
· Knowledge of technological resources including phone systems, PDAs, etc.
· Skill in establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external contacts

Candidate will respond to donor referrals from local hospitals and ensure that each referral is reviewed for donation suitability. Will work with families to obtain consent for donation and manage the physiology of the donor to ensure maximum availability of organs for transplantation. Will work with transplant hospitals to place organs according to UNOS guidelines and assist in the recovery of organs in the operating room. Must demonstrate ability to assess data reflective of the donor's status and interpret appropriate information needed to provide excellent donor medical management. Excellent interpersonal skills required.
Qualifications:
Candidate will be a graduate from an RN or PA program with one year of experience in ICU, ED or the OR; or respiratory therapist with five years experience in ICU or emergency care; or an individual that has six months to one year of practical experience as an Organ Procurement Coordinator. Previous organ/tissue donation experience preferred for all candidates.

WRTC is seeking clinical staff for assistance with recovery, allocation, preservation and follow-up of donated organs and tissues. The Clinical Recovery Coordinator, (CRC) is responsible for the duties related to the evaluation, allocation, and surgical recovery of organs and tissues for transplantation, medical research and medical education. Clinical responsibilities include donor evaluation and clinical management, organ evaluation and allocation and the surgical recovery and preservation of donated organs and tissue. In addition, the CRC will present the option of donation to the legal next-of-kin in a compassionate manner. Specific non-clinical responsibilities include working with WRTC's Hospital Development and Public Affairs to help further the strategic plan of these departments related to donation Activities in our area.

On-site identification and evaluation of potential donors, discussion of authorization by donor designation or request for authorization for donation from NOK, medical management of donor according to established protocols and direction from medical director, administrator on call, or physician/surgeon on call, complete, accurate, and timely documentation of donor related activities in confidential donor record, forms, and database according to established policies and procedures. Attends and participates in activity conference calls and organizational meetings as directed. Variable office time (minimum 5 days per month) to complete chart documentation, projects and assignments. Maintains continuing education (i.e., ACLS, PALS, CPTC, CCRN, etc.). Maintains confidentiality of donor and recipient information according to established policies and procedures.

Position Description:
The PTC will perform all aspects of organ procurement from the initial hospital referral, through the organ recovery procedure, transportation of organs, and post-donor follow-up. The PTC is required to assume 24-hour “on-call” responsibility in rotation with other organ procurement staff. Call time varies by service area, fluctuations in donor activity, and staff turnover. Must possess the ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative, judgment, and make decisions within the scope of assigned authority. Interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communication skills, the ability to make public presentations and a working knowledge of office equipment are a must; physical stamina, including the ability to function in this capacity for 36-hours and lifting up to 50 lbs is required. The PTC is occasionally required to travel by personal auto or air to meeting sites and may be required to travel both in and out of state by personal auto, rental car, or air in order to meet the duties and responsibilities of the position; and is also expected to drive his/her auto at least 20,000 miles per year for job related ground transportation. Company reimbursement for personal auto use while on the job is consistent with IRS guidelines.
