As part of OU Medicine, our new transplant program pairs the state's renowned liver and pancreas transplant team of Anthony Sebastian, MD, Harlan Wright, MD, Rajesh Kanagala, MD and Shi-Feng Li, MD with our respected kidney transplant doctors-andthe state’s only pediatric kidney transplant program. All backed by a full range of adult and pediatric specialists and the region's most advanced medical research programs. 
 
The new team members are nationally recognized for their expertise in liver transplantation and the treatment of all liver disorders, including liver cancers. They have additional expertise in transplant immune suppression and pancreastransplantation for type 1diabetes.

·       To assist the department manager in planning and management of the patient care services.

Organizational Relationships:
 
·       Reports directly to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
·       Collaborative/consultative relationship with the medical, surgical, and pediatric directors of the kidney/pancreas programs of the Transplant Center.
·       Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over nursing and support staff as delegated by the Clinical Nurse Manager.
 
Responsibilities:
 
·       Personnel Management
·       Plan, assign and supervise the work of nursing and support staff.
·       Participate in interviewing, selecting and orienting nursing and support staff.
·       Participate in the counseling, coaching, discipline, and evaluation of unit staff.
·       Participate in the development, implementation and revision of individual performance plans.
·       Facilitate open channels of communication with managers, peers, staff, and physicians.
·       Support and empower staff to maximize their professional development through volunteer activities, unit-based projects, formal education, certification, progression through the Nursing Framework process.
 
Clinical Practice:
 
·       Rotate to the off shifts as determined by the needs of the staff and nurse manager.
·       Serve as a role model to other department staff in the provision of direct patient care.
·       May be required to provide direct patient care as directed by the nurse manager.
·       Participate in multidisciplinary and unit problem solving regarding patient care.
·       Maintain clinical expertise.
 
Management of Clinical Area:
 
·       Participate in the development and implementation of unit or area goals and objectives.
·       Identify and plan for staffing consistent with the needs of the patient population and budgetary requirements.
·       Participate in planning and problem solving of daily unit/area operations, priorities of patient services, and urgent and emergent care.
·       Interpret and implement the Hospital and University policies and procedures and the standards of regulatory agencies.
·       Participate in the monitoring of department payroll and commodity expenditures. Provide input into the payroll and commodity budget planning process.
·       Coordinate performance evaluation activities for unit staff as delegated by the nurse manager.
·       Participate in hiring activities of unit staff: personnel interviews and reference checks.
·       Collaborate with Educational Coordinator to implement competency based evaluation.
·       Participate in developing of unit/area policy/procedure and standards of nursing care.
·       Anticipate and respond to patient/family issues and concerns.
 
Quality Assurance and Research:
 
·       Participate in planning, coordinating and evaluating unit quality improvement activities.
·       Promote the integration of research findings into clinical practice by unit nursing staff.
·       Promote staff involvement in clinical research, as applicable.
Education
·       Facilitate collective activity in professional organizations.
·       Contribute professional clinical and management expertise to other health professionals, and students, both formally and informally.
Professional Development
·       Participate actively in professional organizations.
·       Participate in activities to promote own continued learning and professional growth. Attend appropriate continuing education offerings and staff development programs, review literature, and collaborate with peers and other professionals.
·       Develop performance plan consistent with goals of UMHS. Evaluate own performance periodically with department manager.
 
Required Qualifications:
 
·       Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan
 
Required Educational Requirement:
 
·       Applicant must meet one of the following:
> Bachelors degree in Nursing OR
> Associates degree or diploma in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing
·       Minimum five years experience as a registered nurse.
·       Evidence of demonstrated or potential leadership ability including charge nurse, team leader or other management experience.
·       Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
·       Evidence of ability to assess, interpret, and analyze clinical information independently and collaboratively.
·       Demonstrated ability to work effectively with administrators, physicians, peers and subordinates.

Qualifications:

 

·    Bachelor's Science of Nursing REQUIRED

·    2 years of RN experience in Telemetry, PCU, or Critical Care REQUIRED

·    CPR/BLS is REQUIRED
