About UCSF:

UCSF is one of the oldest and most respected transplant centers in the world. Based on the total number of transplants performed, UCSF is the third largest transplant center in the U.S. It ranks 6th in liver transplants performed, and 3rd in living donor liver transplants. With outstanding results, there is a firm commitment to offering the best clinical care, the most productive and innovative research programs, and an outstanding educational program that trains future leaders in the field of transplantation.

UCSF hosted the dedication of the Connie Frank Transplant Center in June 2010, underscoring the significance of philanthropic support for UCSF transplant services. The Transplant Center enhances the overall patient care experience, and provides UCSF faculty members with an exceptional environment within which to consult with over 3,000 patients each year.

Building on more than 100 years at the forefront of medicine, UCSF Medical Center continues its long history of defining the future of health care. The legacy is visible throughout the institution – groundbreaking scientific advances, new models of patient care and 21st century facilities commensurate with the extraordinary abilities of its associated clinicians and researchers.

UCSF Medical Center ranks among the nation’s top 10 hospitals and is the best in the Bay Area, according to the U.S. News & World Report’s annual hospital rating. The medical center’s hospitals and clinics provide both primary care and highly specialized care at two major locations in San Francisco – Parnassus Heights and Mount Zion – as well as clinics in several other locations. It services generate over 800,000 patient visits a year and $1.5 billion in annual revenue. It has about 7,000 employees.

A new hospital complex is being built in the Mission Bay section of San Francisco. The complex will include hospitals for children, women’s specialty services, and cancer. The newly named UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital recently received a gift to fund its construction – yet another example of the scope and significance of local philanthropy.

UCSF represents one of the principal economic engines in the Bay Area, driving $6.2 billion in industry output and creating more than 39,100 jobs region-wide. Since 2001, UCSF’s revenues have nearly tripled in size, from $1.3 billion to $3.3 billion, due to the growing success both of its biomedical research enterprise and of UCSF Medical Center. UCSF received more research funding from the National Institutes of Health than any other public institution in 2009, and received the second-largest amount of all institutions nationwide.
