Candidates with an academic focus are highly desirable. We are aiming toward an individual with interest to develop or having already developed an independently funded research program that will blend with their clinical responsibilities.

Description:

The Department of Pathology, Anatomy and Cell Biology at Thomas Jefferson University is recruiting a full-time M.D., M.D. /Ph.D. Director of Hematopathology.    Fellowship training and board certification are required; rank will be commensurate with experience.   This will be an exciting opportunity for an individual who can mentor, lead and build on the existing diagnostic platform, which includes a hematopathology fellowship.  The clinical program in hematologic neoplasia is expanding and there is an active bone marrow transplantation service.  Numerous opportunities for translational research are available through an active molecular research program in the department, as well as facilities and resources in the Kimmel Cancer Center and the Department of Medical Oncology.

The Hematopathology Section oversees the diagnosis of all hematopoietic malignancies, including leukemias and lymphomas.  Laboratories under this umbrella perform 1,000 bone marrow examinations, over 600,000 routine hematology, coagulation, urinalysis and body fluid analyses, 1,500 hemoglobin electrophresis assays, 1,300 immunodeficiency panels, 1,500 lymphoma/leukemia panels, 3,000 cytogenetics tests and 4,000 molecular tests.

The Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Clinical Laboratories performs over two million tests per year. The Department has an ACGME accredited residency program and multiple subspecialty fellowships. 

The Department places a major emphasis on scholarship. The successful candidate will be expected to be a member of the Jefferson Medical College teaching faculty and ample time will be allocated to pursue the intradepartmental and interdepartmental opportunities for independent and/or translational research. Development of specialized clinical expertise is strongly encouraged.
