Under the general supervision of the Sr. Supervising CLT, perform independently a wide variety of technical procedures in the Transfusion Service. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: specimen processing, patient pre-transfusion testing, reagent preparation, whole blood fractionation, component preparation, computer data entry and retrieval, quality control testing, immunology problem work-ups, quality assurance activities, and donor quality assurance. This CLS position works with a team of licensed and unlicensed staff to provide transfusion support of the patients of UCLA Medical Center including trauma and transplant patients. Perform clerical duties such as responding to telephone requests for information and test results, and maintaining laboratory records. Record and review data for accuracy and completeness. Perform other duties as assigned, which may include those of a Hospital Lab Technician and assisting the Sr. Technical Specialists and Transfusion Medicine Management Staff.
Qualifications:
- Requires a current California Clinical Lab Scientist License and preferably two years of recent clinical laboratory experience in a Blood Bank.
- Must have a working knowledge of lab safety and test methodologies used in blood banking.
- Experience with MTS gel methodology and solid phase testing preferred.
- Ability to accurately record and collate lab data, and to draw appropriate conclusions.
- Ability to perform computer data entry and retrieval.
- Must have manual dexterity to perform procedures and maintain instrumentation.
- Effective listening skills to understand tasks, duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as computer entry and pipeting.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks under conditions of frequent interruptions, distractions, and heavy workload while maintaining equanimity, accuracy, and productivity.
- Ability to work in an environment with variations in temperature and instrument noise.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, professional working relationships with personnel in the section, laboratory, and ancillary medical areas.
- Ability to respond positively to necessary changes in work schedule with cooperation.
