The Department of Pathology (http://pathology.ucsd.edu/) seeks a clinical-track faculty member to join the Division of Laboratory Medicine and serve as Director of the Immunogenetics and Transplantation (HLA) Laboratory for the expanding UC San Diego Health System.
 
Currently part of the UCSD Clinical Laboratories at Torrey Pines, this major referral laboratory performs over 100,000 billable procedures annually, and supports all solid organ and bone marrow transplantation programs at both the Hillcrest and La Jolla-East (Thornton) Medical Center campuses, as well as for Lifesharing-San Diego and Imperial counties' regional Organ Procurement Organization.
 
In 2011, the laboratory will be consolidated into the new state-of-the-art Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine, located near the $664 million Jacobs Medical Center complex underdevelopment on the La Jolla-East Campus.
 
Candidates must possess MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degrees, and be board-certified/eligible by the American Board of Pathology or a diplomate of an accredited clinical laboratory subspecialty board; California licensure and certification as a laboratory director by the American Society of Histocompatability and Immunogenetics (ASHI) are also required.
 
Preference will be given to individuals with significant prior clinical subspecialty work experience and fellowship training.
 
Applicants should have strong academic credentials with a track record of basic, translational, or clinical research, and are expected to actively contribute to departmental educational programs including training of residents, fellows, graduate, and medical students.
