Baptist Health is the largest hospital system in the state of Arkansas with seven hospitals. The flagship hospital in Little Rock is an 827-bed facility.
Baptist Health has been a leader in cardiovascular services in Arkansas for almost 50 years. The most recent advancement came with the creation of the Baptist Health Transplant Institute that is Arkansas’ first center devoted exclusively to heart and kidney transplants. Currently Baptist Health is the only active adult heart-transplant provider and the only adult ventricular-assist-device provider in Arkansas. To date, Baptist Health has performed 192 heart transplants. In 2011 there were 25 HeartMate II implants and we are currently following over 40 patients out in the community. Baptist Health Heart Transplant Institute is the only Joint Commission Destination Therapy Certified Program in Arkansas.

There is currently one cardiologist in the program and 100% of his practice is the advanced heart failure patient population. He is the only Board Certified Advanced Heart Failure specialist in the state of Arkansas. Together with the existing physician, the Heart Failure physician will receive referrals from cardiologists around the state who will send their patients to this regional advanced heart failure center.
Baptist Health has the infrastructure and resources in place to make this practice successful. The facility was built in 2010 and expansion is currently under way to bring the total number of exam rooms to seven. The total facility space is almost 5000 square feet. The support staff includes 3 VAD nurses, 3 transplant nurses, 1.5 social workers, a PharmD, a dietician, transplant administrator, financial manager and coordinator, data coordinator with additional clerical support staff.
The ideal candidate will be a physician who has completed a Heart Failure fellowship or a cardiology fellow who is interested in pursuing a Heart Failure fellowship.
