Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join the team in our R&D department. The UCLA Immunogenetics Center develops immunological assays for use in diagnostic testing related to Immunogenetics, transplantation and clinical immunology (www.hla.ucla.edu). Join our group in developing and validating new state-of the art diagnostic assays for immune assessment. The successful candidate should be able to work collaboratively with other areas as part of an interdepartmental project team. Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills are essential. Candidates should have an MS or Ph.D. in immunology, cell and/or molecular biology with experience in cellular immunology and molecular and protein detection methods in human biological samples. The successful candidate should have experience in assay development and validation including ELISA or luminex protein and antibody measurements, quantitative gene expression profiling and leukocyte cytokine and proliferation assays.

Northwestern University is inviting applications for a full-time, tenured or tenure-eligible position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor as a joint appointment in the Departments of Surgery and Microbiology-Immunology in association with the Comprehensive Transplant Center and Comprehensive Cancer Center. The individual selected will have the opportunity to collaborate with both basic scientists and clinicians on projects in basic, translational, and clinical immunology with a focus on transplant and cancer immunobiology.

A PhD or equivalent degree and experience as a principal investigator in transplant and oncologic relevant immunology are required. Experience in translating both small and large animal research to clinical investigations, dendritic cell biology, and/or the role of antigen-presenting cells and signaling molecules in transplant tolerance and cancer immunology are desired, but not required. Start date is negotiable. Salary will be negotiated based on experience.

Position Profile:

 

The Research Scientist designs, conducts and assists with biomedical research or experimental protocols involving genetic material, human tissues and/or cellular-level experiments engaged in discovery of disease pathways, testing of biomaterials/pharmaceuticals, and/or epidemiological questions. Duties include the analysis of results and appropriate peer reviewed reporting of results; scientific software programming and protocol writing to achieve valid experimental results by academic standards; and oversight of experimental operations applicable to areas of scientific inquiry the candidate is responsible for.

 

Basic Qualifications (Required):

 

PhD/MD with emphasis in life science or other field of study with direct applicability to genetic biomedical and health research.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

 

HIGHLY PREFERRED: Ability to successfully set up a laboratory experiments and procedures capable of collecting, storing, and analyzing genetic samples, to develop new protocols that advance the current state of the art technology for addressing human genomic questions, direct lab personnel to effectively discover and characterize DNA sequence elements whose functions may impact the health of individuals. These abilities are to be demonstrated by past achievements and or training/education.
