Two Vacancies
Research studies in this lab involves finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. The lab works both with in vitro and in vivo studies We need a research assistant with lab experience including tissue culture and PCR as well as some experience with in vivo study in mice and non-human primates.
This research assistant will work under the supervision of Dr. M. Koulmanda heading up the research projects in the Islet Research Transplant Laboratories.
· Carry out experiments and treatment in laboratory animals (mice and monkeys) in prevention and curing of diabetes.
Organize the data and plan the necessary steps in carrying out the outcomes of the experiments.
· Organize mice transplantation and follower up treatments as well as help in monkey transplantation and follower up treatments.
· Utilizing specialized knowledge of transplantation, sophisticated research methods and a mixture of treatments we look at ways that can cure diabetes as well as prevent it if detected in earlier stages.
· Works with highest level of independence. Within guidelines established by PI is responsible for daily operations of the laboratory. Responsible for modifications of experimental techniques and troubleshooting problems as they research protocols arise.
· Designs in conjunction with PI.
· Collect, record analyze and presents data as well as helping in preparing projects for publication in medical and technical journals or for presentations at professional field meetings or conferences.
The goal of this research project is to create a protocol that will cure diabetes or prevent it.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 1-2 years of experience required.

Description:
This position is responsible for developing complex projects and information retrieving as well as data extraction from NMDP and CIBMTR databases for research and operational purposes. Responsibilities include analyzing customer specifications and requirements as well as business requirements; develop specifications, codes, tests, debug, and validates complex projects; document projects according to department guidelines; revises and updates programs and documentation as required; directing work and training to assigned technical staff or contractors; develop ad hoc queries and reports as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in math, computer science, or a technical field that required extensive computer programming as part of the program degree.
Six years experience as a programmer/analyst in a software development environment that required research-oriented programming and experience working with relational databases.
Knowledge of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and HLA is preferred.
Advanced programming skills in Perl, UNIX, and CGI, along with advanced skills using SAS or SPSS and SQL. Knowledgeable in JAVA and/or .NET is a plus. Experience with relational databases is required.
