Description:  

 

The Research Nurse, Senior will manage and participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and management of clinical trials and medical research projects in Abdominal Transplant Surgery, liver and pancreatic (hepatobiliary) patient care, and in benign and malignant tumors.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

·       Coordinate multiple research activities in abdominal transplant surgery, liver and pancreas patient care, and in treatment of benign and malignant tumors.

·       Participate in protocol development by reviewing potential protocols to evaluate their effect on standard nursing procedures.

·       Develop, prepare and submit IRB proposals.

·       Set up, monitor and manage the clinical trials.

·       Assist in the recruitment of study participants: interview and evaluate potential participants to ensure they meet eligibility requirements; instruct participants concerning protocol and assist in the consenting procedure.

·       Schedule and/or coordinate the scheduling of required laboratory tests and/or exams.

·       Document medical data in patient record and collects data pertinent to clinical trials and research protocols.

·       Assist in completion of case report forms for each study participant and assume responsibility for audit preparation.

·       Evaluate and develop patient educational materials and gives patient and/or family members instructions on drug administration and other medical information.

·       Participate in meetings with nursing staff, providing training and current patient information in order to assure comprehensive patient care.

·       Assess participants for evidence of drug toxicity and unexpected side effects or other problem; notify principal investigator and IRB as applicable.

·       Participate in meetings with statistician and/or physicians and principal investigator.

·       Assist physician and/or principal investigator in writing manuscripts for publication and/or presentation of materials at conferences.  

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's degree from a State Board of Nursing approved school of nursing AND two years of professional nursing experience; OR, Associate's degree or diploma in Nursing from a State Board of Nursing approved school of nursing AND four years of professional nursing experience.

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arizona; OR, possesses a temporary license from the Arizona State Board of Nursing to practice as a Registered Nurse; permanent license from the Arizona State Board of Nursing required within four (4) months of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

 

·       Prior experience in academic clinical setting.

·       Experience in pharmaceutical sponsored and investigator initiated clinical research trials.

·       Effective communication and written skills.

·       Effective problem solving and trouble shooting skills.

·       Strong computer skills.

·       Knowledge of clinical trials and data management techniques.

·       Skill in coordinating the work of others.

·       Skill in medical assessment techniques.

·       Skill in maintaining detailed records.
