- Working knowledge of flow cytometry techniques is preferred.

Qualifications:

3. MT ASCP or equivalent desired. CHT or CHS preferred but not required.

Job Summary:
This is a full time position for UPMC Shadyside located at the
Responsibilities:
· Assures aseptic techniques.
· Processes autologous and allogeneic progenitor cell products according to procedure
· Maintains and operates specialized automated equipment.
· Prepares reagents according to strict guidelines.
· Performs calculations that determine critical patient indices
· Performs required testing on hematopoietic progenitor cell products.
· Follows procedures for sample acceptance, patient identification and confidentiality
· Ensures that all records relevant to a patient¿s product is contained within the HSCLab Patient folder.
· Maintains accurate and current records in the computer for the following:
o Hematopoietic progenitor cell product storage locations in the LN2 vessels.
o All computed flow cytometry results for hematopoietic progenitor cell products
· Performs regularly scheduled laboratory and reagent QC as specified in HSCLab manuals.
· Performs periodic quality control tests on all automated equipment as specified in the HSCLab procedure manual.
· Compiles QC for review by Laboratory Supervisor.
· Notifies Laboratory Supervisor and/or Laboratory Director of equipment failure and when quality control criteria exceed established limits.
· Identify major problems if they arise during processing; notify Laboratory Supervisor and/or Laboratory Director and Medical Director for consultation and instruction.
Basic Qualifications:
· Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology and registration with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (A.S.C.P.) and two years experience in a clinical setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. An Associate degree in one of the sciences with at least five years of related laboratory science and A.S.C.P. registration (or equivalent) is also acceptable.
