Postdoctoral Scientist I, CRI/Gene Therapy (Montanaro Laboratory), Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio

Postdoctoral Scientist I, CRI/Gene Therapy (Montanaro Laboratory), Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio

General Summary:

The Montanaro Laboratory focuses on the mechanisms of skeletal and cardiac muscle degeneration in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and the design and utilization of novel therapies to combat this debilitating, lethal disease affecting young children. Specifically, the lab is skilled in using flow cytometry to isolate adult stem cells and transplant them via the circulation for body-wide delivery to affected muscles. Dr. Montanaro has demonstrated that adult stem cells derived from the skin, an accessible tissue for transplantations, can engraft in dystrophic muscle. A post-doctoral position is available immediately to study the molecular mechanisms regulating adult stem cell proliferation in response to muscle damage and cell fate determination. Experience in mammalian cell culture and mouse handling is required.
