As a Transplant Dietitian at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Medical Center in San Antonio, you will provide nutrition care to patients of the facility. You will assure that the nutritional needs of the individual patients are being met and that all documentation as it relates to the patients nutritional status is complete and accurate. The Registered Dietitian directs activities of institution department, providing quality food service and nutritional care.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will possess a bachelors degree (BA) from a 4-year college or university. This position requires Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association and Licensed Dietitian status, if residing in a state with licensure. Minimum of 2 years experience working as a clinical dietitian is required. Adult acute care, dialysis, renal, and/or CDE certification is preferred. The ability to communicate (both verbal and written) effectively with clients, customers of client and support staff is required. Requires management and leadership skills and the ability to work with confidential employee, client and ARAMARK information.

Description:

 

The Clinical Dietetic Technician collaborates with Nutritionists and other members of the health care team to provide nutrition care to patients at low and/or moderate nutrition risk in the transplant and medicine/surgical populations.

The primary focus of this position is to assign a nutrition risk level to all patients not already seen by a registered dietitian. Each patient encounter includes interviewing the patient regarding weight history, diet history, food allergies/intolerances, barriers to eating well as food preferences. The DT assigns each patient a risk level and is either triaged to the RD for additional interventions or managed by the DT for continuing care.

Other Responsibilities:

Provides nutrition education to patient and family members on appropriate food selections and eating guidelines to accomplish patient goals.

Mentors dietetic interns/students.

Actively assesses, evaluates and maintains professional development and competency related to the competencies outlined in the position description.

Qualifications:

 
1. Associate of Arts Degree in nutrition or related field.
2. DTR certification is preferred.
3. Six to twelve months experience as a
Dietetic Technician in hospital setting is preferred.
4. Knowledge of nutritional requirements as they relate to human disease is necessary to assess a patient's nutritional needs.
5. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide nutrition care appropriate to the age of the patients served for given service.
6. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care as described in the unit/area/department policies and procedures.

Job Summary:

Responsible for the nutritional care of patients referred to the Intestinal Rehabilitation and Transplantation Program. Conducts detailed patient evaluation, assessment and monitoring and develops a comprehensive treatment plan under the supervision of a physician.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in nutrition, dietetics, foods or closely related field. Completion of an American Dietetic Association (ADA) approved dietetic internship (or equivalent to fulfill requirements for ADA registration eligibility). Knowledge of pre- and post-transplant enteral and parenteral nutrition and hydration requirements. Competence in administration and monitoring of advanced nutrition therapies. Excellent communication skills required. Minimum three years clinical experience in parenteral and enteral nutrition support and in counseling of patients with intestinal failure and other gastrointestinal diseases required. Minimum one year clinical experience working with home parenteral nutrition patients required. Current registration and state licensure by the Ohio Board of Dietetics. Current certification in nutrition support by the National Board of Nutrition Support Certification. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires working under stressful conditions with acutely and chronically ill patients with some exposure to communicable diseases. Requires flexible work hours including availability for weekend on-call coverage for IRTP patients.
